County says no to Somers' request for more open-space funds
SOMERS - Westchester County's message to this town is not exactly "drop dead," but it's close.

To a request for more money to preserve more open space from development in Somers, County Executive Andrew Spano has told the town to start approving affordable housing units or forget about any more county cash.

"To date the town of Somers has not demonstrated any progress in following through on the commitment to add affordable housing in the town," reads a May 4 letter from Spano.
It's bad news for activists trying to keep a 29-acre peninsula on the crystal blue Amawalk Reservoir from being developed, but it's not unexpected news.
