Somers school budget passes by 2-1 margin

The Somers school budget passed by nearly a 2-to-1 margin, and Board of Education incumbent Joanne Iannacchino will rejoin the board with first-time trustees Anthony Cirieco and Ifay Chang.Excluding votes from about 50 absentee ballots, the $71.9 million budget passed unofficially, 1,114 to 631, according to District Clerk Nancy Corrado.The 2007-08 fiscal plan will raise taxes 5.8 percent. Based on a home assessment of $60,000, the school tax bill would be $7,419."Obviously, we're delighted that the community came out and supported our schools once again with a very favorable margin of close to 2-to-1," said Superintendent Joanne Marien. "To us, it's an indication of the community's support and confidence in the school. We appreciate that, and we certainly don't take it lightly. We will continue to do our best to service our community well."
